Can you Change Filter on Instagram After Posting?

Can You Change an Instagram Filter on a Photo That has Been Posted Already?

Okay so you’ve shared a kick-ass image on Instagram, but then some time pass, and more and more, you start thinking about whether or not you should have picked a different Instagram filter on your post. The thought starts nagging on you more anymore, and after some time, the brief thought that you wanted to change an Instagram filter on a photo that has been posted already has turned into an irritating fact. Or, you might have realized once you’ve shared the post that you’ve used the wrong filter by accident, but now, since you’ve accumulated likes and comments, you don’t want to delete the post and upload it again.

Some people are bored to create new filters and they use free lightroom instagram presetsand save their time.

But can you Change an Instagram Filter on a Photo That has Been Posted Already?

The answer is, unfortunately, no. When you post a picture, the filter which you have selected for that specific post essentially alters the picture.

Can you Change Filter on Instagram After Posting?

While you cannot Change an Instagram Filter on a Photo That has Been Posted Already, you can edit your Instagram post in hindsight in a number of different ways.

You cannot change the filter after you’ve shared a post on Instagram, and this goes for both if you have actually used a filter or not. Furthermore, before you share a post on Instagram, you have the opportunity to edit it in order to get the image just like you want it, instead of using a filter, and if you’ve shared your post already, there won’t be any way for you to change your editing either.

The ways you can edit an Instagram post after you’ve shared it

Caption

One of the ways you can edit a photo on Instagram after you’ve shared it is your caption. To edit your caption, simply tap on the three dots in the top right corner of your post and start writing/remove the caption you have already included. When you’re done, tap in the top right corner.

Location

Another way you can edit a post you’ve already shared on Instagram is its geotag. The geotag is the location which the post has checked in to.

To change or edit the geotag, tap in the top right corner of the post and then tap either add a location if you haven’t, or edit location.

Tag people

You can also change the people you have tagged in your post after it has been shared.

The same step applies here: simply tap the three dots in the top right corner and now, tap on the image where it says tag people if you haven’t tagged anyone or X people (depending on how many you’ve tagged.

Start tagging the people and then tap done.

What can you do instead?

Now, you’re here because you’re wondering how you can change an Instagram filter on a photo that has been posted already, but since the answer was quite disappointing, what can you do instead?

What you can do is post the original photo with a different filter later on, or, delete the picture (assuming it doesn’t have many likes and comments – if it matters to you) and post it with a new filter of your choosing.

If you care about the fact that your post received a lot of engagement, it might be a trickier decision for you, and in that case,  you might want to consider keeping it and re-posting the same pic later with a new filter instead of deleting it first.

The reason you cannot change the filter on Instagram after you’ve shared a post is that you would be able to change the context of an image that people had already engaged with; while it’s just a filter, it could be a slippery slope.
