TikTok has taken the world by storm in recent years. It has been referred to, fondly, by the slightly older millennial generations as “the new vine”, which no longer exists as a social media platform. As a supposed replacement, TikTok seems to be doing very well indeed. But what is TikTok?

This social media platform is completely free and allows users to post, watch and share videos. These short videos usually come with the background music of current chart hits embedded in them. Remember This is the name TikTok previously had, before they merged with another company and chose to rebrand.  In 2019, TikTok had over, a huge, 500 million monthly users, and was named the most downloaded app (2019) with 1.5 billion downloads on the App Store and Google Play combined.

So, why is it that TikTok has soured into popularity recently? 41% of TikTok users in 2019 were recorded as being between the ages of 16 to 24. This is a staggering number of young users on the platform and is probably a key element to their success. If one young person is sharing a video, other young people will want to be part of the action, leading to a higher number of downloads, and an increase in the number of monthly users.

Because it is specifically designed to allow young people to express themselves in a creative way, be that by lip-syncing, or dancing to a funny video, TikTok has soared in popularity amongst teens and made it the must-have app for many.

This direct appeal to specifically the under 18 markets has baffled adults the world over. The whole concept of the app can seem alien to adults attempting to understand the hype. However, the number of adults downloading and using the app has been on the increase.

In less than 18 months, the number of adults using TikTok grew an impressive 5.5 times, rising from 2.6 million users in October 2017 to 14.3 million users in March 2019. This spike can almost definitely be accredited to Jimmy Fallon, who, as part of one of his shows, asked his audience to take part in some challenges on TikTok. This undoubtedly will have increased downloads of TikTok and may have even convinced some adults to enjoy using the app on a more regular basis.

But where does TikTok sit with other competitors in the social media market? Rather than simply just a replacement for Vine, TikTok has been heralded as a social media platform designed for creators. In this way, it trumps the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or even Snapchat, as this is not their primary aim. For all intents and purposes, it looks like TikTok is here to stay.

So, you may be wondering, how on earth do you succeed on such a platform?

Getting followers is the key to becoming ‘TikTok famous’ which is a dream of many of the content creators using TikTok. There are multiple ways to gather followers on the social media platform, however, the easiest way to get followers from this site is to head over to who can help increase your TikTok follower count for free.

Posting regular content will always help build up your follower count, and thinking of outside the box ideas, as well as following the trends will attract more people to your content. If you upload daily, this will help, and make sure you keep up to date with the latest music in the charts and use this in your videos.

Have a look to see what your favorite TikTokers are doing, and take inspiration from them. It also seems like viewers love it when there’s more than one person involved in the video, so invite your friends’ round! These methods can be time-consuming, and you may see progress slower than you would like. To get more followers from TikTok at a faster rate, there’s plenty of services that can help, that is safe to use.

So, what does 2021 have in store for TikTok? TikTok has already exceeded expectations of its longevity, proving to be more substantial than Vine or even perhaps Snapchat. The app has a very clear purpose, which makes it instantly appealing. On top of this, the saturation of content that exists in the likes of Facebook or Youtube has opened new space for apps such a TikTok who have a succinct aim, and a dedicated niche community. TikTok’s exponential growth over the past few years has shocked even the smartest of social media gurus, but is it here to stay in 2021? To continue its growth speed, TikTok needs to home in on its niche audience and keep the generation Z users interested.

In order to do this, they need to avoid saturation of content, and will probably team up with paid advertisements and media collaborations due to its unique target audience. For now, at least, it looks like TikTok is set to continue to grow in popularity in 2020, so it is more important than ever to keep growing your account. Content is simply booming, so following trends and creating original videos will grow followers at a slower rate than usual with more and more people uploading their own creative content each day.
