Coronavirus: Hand Sanitizer and Toilet Paper Shortage Explained

Coronavirus: Hand sanitizer and toilet paper shortage explained

The coronavirus, known as Covid-19 has taken the world by storm. Governments all around the world are taking substantial actions in order to limit the spread and minimize the impact. The coronavirus has already had a huge impact on most sectors and industries due to decreased consumption. Not to mention the dramatic drop in the stock market in recent weeks.

But whilst the Coronavirus has a huge negative impact on most industries, there are a few industries that are thriving as a result of skyrocketing demand for their products.

Two products that have skyrocketed in demand, which has lead to supply shortages all around the world, is hand sanitizer and toilet paper.

Coronavirus: Why is there a shortage of hand sanitizer and toilet paper?

Experts have advised about the best actions and precautions we can take in order to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. One of the most important things you can do is wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer regularly. Ideally, after any interaction, you have had with any objects that may contain the virus. Common objects where the virus may be found include things such as buttons, door handles, and hand railings.

But it’s not always that you are able to wash your hands after every interaction you may have with an object that can have the risk of holding the virus. With that said hand sanitizer can be a lifesaver – literally.

Due to the big spread of the virus, and the recommendation of sanitizing your hands, the demand for it has exploded, and people have started stockpiling it in order to minimize the risk of getting infected.

So why is there a limited supply of toilet paper as a result of the Coronavirus?

All around the world, people have quarantined themselves, either out of fear, advice from the government, or because they are not allowed to be outside according to new rules that the government has established.

As a result of this, people have stockpiled important groceries and commodities to ensure that they don’t run out. When millions of people in a country are going to stockpile the same products at the same time, they naturally run out as most stores have not been prepared for this pandemic.

Companies that make both toilet paper and hand sanitizers are currently working full speed to meet the demand, but still, in many places, the production has not caught up, and the shelves are still screaming empty.

If for different reasons, you are required to be in quarantine for a longer period of time, it can be a good idea to stock up with toilet paper. And regardless if you have to be in quarantine or not, it’s extremely important in these times to always have access to hand sanitizer and regularly use it to minimize any risk of infection.
