Confidence can help you have the life you want and the respect that you deserve.
Gaining confidence is a real art. To find it, you should study the habits of confident people. When you follow the rules they live by, you can improve your confidence levels too.
Here are seven rules that all confident people strive to live by:
1. They Hang Out with the Right Crowd
To truly maintain a confident attitude, you need to surround yourself with the right type of people. Confident people can recognize each other and tend to flock together.
These folks thrive around people who believe in their aspirations. Just think how hard it would be to strive to reach a goal when you are surrounded by negative people.
Confident people also tend to spend time around great leaders. They read their blogs, follow them on social media, watch their TED Talks, and listen to their podcasts.
By spending time around confident leaders, even just online, you’ll learn how to be one yourself.
2. They Aren’t Deterred by Fear
Confident people look fear in the face. They see it as an obstacle to overcome, not a reason to give up. It gives them the opportunity to learn and improve.
Instead of being afraid of risk, they see it as a sign that their project is worth the effort. If the thought of doing something makes you scared, it must be exciting enough to pursue.
3. They Control Their Thoughts
It’s hard enough to control your actions, but managing your thoughts is far more difficult. Training yourself to do it, however, can help boost your confidence levels.
How do you go about this?
Well, the first rule is to reject negative self-talk. You should be your best advocate. Whenever doubt creeps into your brain, kick it out immediately!
This doesn’t mean that you stop being critical of yourself. There’s always room for improvement. But, the idea is to cultivate a positive, can-do attitude. Instead of focusing on potential problems, find solutions and answers.
Another way to control your thoughts is through visualization. Make it a habit to visualize your ideal self every day. Where do you want to be in the future? What kind of person do you want to be in your career? In your family? In your relationships?
By visualizing these things every day, you’ll remind yourself to set goals and go after them.
4. They Wear Heavy Armor
To keep your confidence levels up, you need to let insults slide right off you. Don’t worry about what others think about you. There will always be people that have something negative to say, but they shouldn’t have any effect on you.
Another rule that confident people abide by is to bounce back from failures. When you are confident, you’ll be going after goals all the time. You won’t always be successful.
Instead of giving up, take a step back and figure out what went wrong. Learn from the experience and move on.
5. They Invest in Themselves
Confident people understand that achieving great things requires time, energy, and sometimes money.
You may feel that spending your hard-earned money on a training course is too risky. You might worry that it’ll be a waste if you fail at achieving your goals.
Stop worrying about that. If you have disposable income, don’t be afraid to risk it on your dreams.
In order to be more than you are today, you have to be willing to invest time, energy, and money into your future. You’re worth it!
6. They Know and Love Themselves
Confidence is a state of being. You aren’t born that way and you can’t buy it.
Confident people accept themselves and feel comfortable in their own skin. Self-confidence is closely related to self-love.
To gain confidence, you should praise yourself for the good qualities you know that you possess. Build up your self-love, and confidence will follow suit.
When you accept who you are — the good and the bad — you will naturally have more faith in your own abilities. Not only will you know where your strengths lie, but you can work to improve your weaknesses.
7. They Don’t Get Comfortable
Confident people never reach a level where they feel like they have done enough. They are always challenging themselves to be more.
They don’t get complacent. As soon as they do, they look for ways to break the barrier.
They are always looking for new things to be involved in. If they succeed in these new endeavors, it’s just another way to build more confidence.
If they don’t succeed, they consider it personal growth. Even failure is better than sitting still. Confident people consider stagnancy a defeat.
You’ve probably noticed a pattern in these rules:
Confident people don’t just have confidence in themselves, they have confidence in life in general. They don’t sweat the small stuff and they don’t give up.
There is also such a thing as too much confidence, so be careful of that. In your struggle to gain more confidence, don’t trick yourself into believing that you’re better than other people.
